Substances Management Training

These duties include:

• Properly labeling containers
• Maintaining a register and manifest (when applicable) of hazardous chemicals
• Assessing the risk of physical or chemical reactions with hazardous chemicals
• Ensuring exposure standards are not exceeded
• Providing health monitoring for workers
• Offering relevant information, training, instruction and supervision to workers 
• Provision of spill containment system for hazardous chemicals (if necessary)
• Obtaining the current Safety Data Sheet (SDS) from the manufacturer, importer or supplier of the chemical
• Controlling ignition sources and accumulation of flammable and combustible substances, and
• Preparing an emergency plan if the quantity of a class of hazardous chemicals at a workplace exceeds the manifest quantity for that hazardous chemicals

Our Safety team offers expert consultancy to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements related to chemical management. Our most commonly requested services include:

1. We assist with risk assessing hazardous chemicals and developing a Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS). This is done through a tutorial with a nominated employee, providing them with the skills and knowledge to carry out similar assessments for other high-risk chemicals over time.
2. We conduct a thorough site hazard identification process and document all identified hazards (excluding individual chemicals) in a hazard register. Each hazard is then risk-assessed, and appropriate risk control action plans are developed. The hazard register is a live document, allowing you to replicate the processes we initiate and continue using it as new hazards are identified over time.
3. Our Chemicals / Hazardous Substances Training Programs are custom-developed and delivered to align with your specific operational requirements.
