Fire and Emergency Training
SAFETY PARTNERS: THE SAFETY EXPERTS
Fire and Emergency Training
This training course equips participants with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively plan and implement emergency procedures, ensuring they can perform their designated roles during a crisis. It aligns with the requirements of the WHS Regulations 2011 (Div 4) and follows the guidance of Australian Standard 3745:2010 – Planning for Emergencies in Facilities. The course takes a comprehensive approach, covering key areas to help organisations meet their emergency planning responsibilities. We recognise the importance of a structured and well-thought-out response to potentially life-threatening situations. That’s why we encourage businesses to proactively assess worst-case scenarios, ensuring those in critical roles are well-prepared and confident in their ability to respond under pressure.
The course is divided into two sections, each designed for a specific audience:
Part 1 – Emergency Planning team
To develop an understanding of legal requirements and best practice approaches to emergency planning. Participants will learn to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of legal requirements and different types of emergencies.
- Plan and document for specific emergencies.
- Understand reporting and communication requirements.
- Identify Pre/During/Post emergency activities.
- Understand the barriers of human behaviour during emergencies and strategies to overcome them.
Part 2 – General Workers
To develop an understanding of the organisation’s emergency and evacuation protocols. Employees will be trained to:
- Understand and adhere to company emergency procedures.
- Demonstrate the same through a trial evacuation, including a debrief with the Emergency Control Organisation (ECO).
- Understand the fundamentals of fire, the fire triangle, fire classes, methods of fire spread, and smoke behaviour.
- Understand the fundamentals and limitations of fire-fighting equipment, methods of extinguishment, fire extinguishers, fire blankets, and sprinkler systems.
Part 2 includes a practical evacuation and a simulated demonstration of using a fire blanket and fire extinguisher.
Note: We do not light a fire on your premises for two key reasons:
- The potential impact on your business’s insurance premiums (and, in some cases, the risk of non-coverage)
- While it’s important for your workers to understand how a fire extinguisher functions, we also want them to recognise its limitations, with the first instinct being evacuation and prioritising safety
The training will be tailored to your existing procedures and worksite. The total duration of the session will be up to three hours, in addition to set-up and pack-down time.
